Welcome to the first issue of Community Health News of Bell County. The articles in this newsletter have been provided by various health and human service organizations that serve within Bell and the surrounding counties. Our hope is that you use the information in a way that helps you access the health care resources you need and to be aware of events that may be of interest to you. Our goal is to publish a newsletter at least quarterly. You can read it online or download and print it to share with others. We welcome your ideas on types of articles you would like to see. Pharmaceutical Assistance Program If your uninsured clients need assistance with obtaining their medications for chronic conditions, the Free Clinic can help you. Through a partnership with Bell County Health Services and Metroplex Hospital, this project will help individuals apply to drug companies for free medications. Call (254) 519-0763 for an appointment.



The Free Clinic will be providing vaccinations for Novel H1N1 and seasonal flue. Please find out the dates for these special clinics by calling (254) 519-3898.

    Bell County Community Health Partners - Applications being accepted to provide people with assistance in obtaining free or low cost medications from pharmaceutical companies’ patient assistance programs. This program is free to the individual. For more information contact Connie at (254) 618-4202 for an application, appointment or more information.     Bell County Public Health District provides clinical health services to the community in the following areas:

    Immunizations ($10 for one, $15 for two or more)
    Tuesdays in Killeen
    Wednesdays in Temple

    Family Planning (fee on sliding fee scale) Medicaid and Women’s Health Program Provider (Medicaid program for birth control)
    Exams, lab work, birth control provided on site for women up to age 45.
    By Appointment in both Killeen and Temple locations

    Prenatal Care (fee on sliding fee scale)
    CHIP Perinatal and Medicaid Provider
    Exams performed by Scott and White Residents / Delivery at Scott and White Hospital Temple
    Initial record by appointment in Killeen and Temple offices
    Prenatal appointments are in Temple office only

    Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic ($50 cash)
    Testing and Treatment for Gonorrhea, Chlamydia & Syphilis
    Testing for HIV (referral for treatment)
    Thursday 1-3pm in Killeen and Temple offices

    Tuberculosis Testing & Treatment ($40 per client for Latent TB Follow Up / no charge for Active cases)
    TB skin tests performed and read. ($20 each unless contact to active case)
    Latent TB Infection services (Xray, record, medications x 9 months)
    Active TB Infection services – Case Management / Directly Observed Therapy
    By appointment in Killeen and Temple Offices

    Disease Surveillance
    Epi investigations conducted on vaccine preventable and communicable diseases
    Temple Office

    Community Outreach Education (no charge)
    Health Educator provides education and information to community through presentations at schools and community groups.
