Who is the Bell County Community Needs Coalition?
The Bell County Community Needs Coalition (the Coalition) consists of various health and human service stakeholders dedicated toward the development of a countywide health and human services needs assessment. The Coalition was founded major organizations and agencies in Bell County, including:

What is the Community Needs Assessment?
The Community Needs Assessment is the ongoing process of regular and systematic collection, assembly, analysis, and distribution of information on the health and human services needs of Bell County. Its aim is to describe the health of the community, by presenting information on health status, community health needs, resources, and epidemiological and other studies of current local health and human services problems.

The assessment will help the County, hospitals, human services organizations, non profits, employers, schools and other stakeholders to better understand the health and human services concerns of the residents of Bell County, prioritize the issues and identify resources for addressing them.

How do you define health?
Health means education, prevention, and treatment services for public health, medical care, mental health and dental care.

How do you define human services?
Human Services means services focused on human care or community needs for families, children, youth, seniors and persons with disabilities. Examples include but are not limited to: housing, substance abuse, food, special needs children or adults, domestic violence, etc.

What do you mean by community?
Community is defined as the town or neighborhood where you live, study or work.

How Will the Assessment be Accomplished?
Bell County, area United Ways and hospitals have contracted with Texas Health Institute (THI), an Austin-based non-profit, to facilitate and provide technical assistance for the development of the coalition and to produce a countywide needs assessment. The assessment will be an evidenced-based, data driven tool to be used for current and future planning efforts that result in effective and sustainable strategies that meet the health and human service needs of Bell County.

How long will it take?
The survey process is expected to take six weeks, from March 31 to May 14. If the Coalition has not received an adequate number of responses for the survey to be statistically valid, the period may be extended.

In addition to the survey, the needs assessment also includes key informant interview and focus groups with Bell County residents.

Texas Health Institute will prepare a report to the Coalition by June 15, 2010.

Why should I participate?
Broad community participation is essential to this process because a wide range of organizations and individuals contribute to the health and human services of Bell County. Public, private, and voluntary organizations join community members and informal associations in the provision of these services, By filling out the survey or participating in a focus group or key informant interview, you are making sure that your voice is being heard; and that your concerns and ideas will be part of the information presented to the community leaders and the general public.

Are my answers confidential?
Yes, your answers are 100 percent confidential. Individual surveys will not be shared with any members of the coalition. They will only receive aggregate data from Texas Health Institute.

How do I get access to the final results?
United Way of Central Texas has a special section of their website devoted to the Coalition: LINK. By June 15, you will find a copy of the final report as well as other information about the coalition.

How long does it take to fill out the survey?
It takes approximately 5-8 minutes to fill out all questions in the survey.
